Black Obsidian Rough Candle Holder adorned with Black Obsidian chunks and Chalcopyrite also known as Peacock Ore Black Obsidian is a glassy luster rock that forms from volcanic lava cooling quickly. This is a pure black stone with a flat cut base containing sharp edges, as such recommending caution when touching. Obsidian can be found where lava comes into contact with water and around the edges of a volcanic dome or lava flow. This gemstone was once used in trading by Mayan merchants, dating as far back as 100 years BC. It was also made to produce sharp blades and arrowheads by ancient tribes. Chalcopyrite is a copper iron sulfide mineral and the most abundant copper ore mineral. It is easily recognized by it beautiful iridescent green, blue, pink, purple, and gold colors that resemble the feathers of a peacock. The colors of Chalcopyrite come from the oxidation of copper and iron in the crystal.
